COVID-19 is the number one killer of African-Americans in New Jersey, with one in five deaths attributed to the virus and related conditions. The Trenton Kappa Foundation, in partnership with the Trenton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi is taking action with a new initiative strategically named Beat COVID-19 Get the Vaccine Initiative: Educate, Motivate and Vaccinate!
We are encouraging the community to take advantage of these important resources:
Educate
- Go to the CDC website for the most up-to-date information about the virus
- Listen to experts such as the Black Doctors Consortium and other healthcare providers
- TKF partnered with the Trenton Branch of the NAACP to co-sponsor a COVID-19 townhall event View video here
Motivate
TKF and the Trenton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi partnered on a public service billboard campaign (see below) to draw attention to the importance of getting a COVID-19 vaccination. The billboards feature members of the TKF board. They are situated in high traffic areas throughout New Jersey and have been seen by over 6 million people in its first four weeks.
Vaccinate
Eligible individuals are encouraged to get the vaccine and post their activities on social media to inspire others. Click here to view vaccination locations.
Other Activities
In collaboration with the Trenton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, the Trenton Kappa Foundation donated Gift Cards (for food and supplies) and surgical masks to the following organizations:
- The Trenton Housing Authority
- Henry J. Austin Health Care Center
- Young Scholars Institute
- Trenton Kappa League
The Trenton Kappa Foundation also provided catered meals for health care workers at St. Francis Medical Center and Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell while they were on the job.
